ARTIST'S CONCEPTION OF FINISHED LANDSCAPE |

| Please forgive the hasty photo retouching
job, but I wanted to put together some plans to illustrate our goal for the backyard green
project (and give my wife some idea of what my son & I want to accomplish). I spliced
together three pictures of the view from our rear deck to show the existing area. The putting green is on the
far left and not highly visible in the photo. The wooded area
at the rear of the lot is largely unimproved and bare. |

| This fall we plan to expand
the green to the center of the yard and use rock retaining walls to
define the green area. We are beginning to clean out
some planter box areas in the woods and will add some more retaining
walls, and plantings of azaleas and other colorful bushes and
flowers. The plantings shown were painted on this photo
directly from a picture of Augusta National golf course. We
will put bushes along the neighbor's fence to provide more
definition to the back of the green and catch errant golf shots. The small tree between the deck and the existing retaining wall will be removed. This will provide more sunlight for the existing green, eliminate the debris this tree drops, and provide better view from the deck. Our existing goldfish pond will be moved from beside the deck out into the yard as shown, and given a more natural appearance. This will also set the desired theme of rock outcropping that we will later outline the green with. Our fall expansion project will more than double the size of our putting surface, making it close to 2,000 sq. ft. The retaining wall will allow us to cut the putting surface almost to the edge, turning the current sloped collar to usable green.

| Besides the Augusta National Golf Course, this is another inspiration for our backyard design. This is a view from my Dad's deck (taken in 1998) at Oak Ridge CC, Dallas, TX. That's Dad and dog, Ginger, taking an afternoon stroll across the number 11 par 3 right behind the house. The back nine was his 30 acre backyard. |
